A Warm Welcome to SAIL, our alumni magazine

Swansea University has an enduring tradition of sporting achievement and excellence.

Whether you came to Swansea as an elite athlete, were a member of one of our many sports societies or clubs, attended or participated in Varsity or simply enjoyed a run along the Mumbles promenade, there is little doubt that sport will have featured during your time with us.

We recognise that our University is the region’s university, and our future vision therefore encompasses not only our students and staff, but also the health and wellbeing of our wider community. We aim to transform lives and futures through the promotion of sport and physical activity and the provision of top-class sporting facilities, such as those at Swansea Bay Sports Park, for the good of our local community.

We champion sport for all and promote the benefits of physical activity to overall wellbeing. Building on the success of our Institute of Life Science, our new Swansea Bay City Deal-funded Campuses project on Sketty Lane will further support the next generation of medical and sports technology innovation and build on our University’s research excellence within the fields of sport, physical activity and health. Find out more about the Campuses project here.

This magazine features interviews with alumni who are now working in the world of sport. From Formula 1 to Sky Sports and from the Olympics and Paralympics to the world of sports legislation, I hope that you will find their stories both inspirational and reminiscent of your own time at Swansea.

We remain extremely proud of the achievements of so many of our former students, and recognise that whatever their field, they are contributing to a brighter future. While we cannot highlight all of the fantastic work of our alumni, we very much hope that you enjoy this snapshot.

Best wishes,

Professor Paul Boyle
